Built in 2006, this modern interpretation of a shingle-style home sits on a large, wooded lot, sheltered from traffic on the road above, and offers an amazing view of the Cuyahoga River valley below. When the homeowners bought the property in 2017, they chose it for the landscape and view as much as for the house. The exterior features a monochromatic color scheme, and the front of the house has three gabled facades and a large arched window above the front entrance. The incised front entrance door has a leaded glass transom above, sidelights, and a poinsettia-covered wreath to welcome you.
Every room in the house is fully decorated for the season. In fact, the homeowner proudly refers to himself as the “King of Christmas.” Near the garland-draped staircase in the two-story entrance hall, a table displays a collection of nutcrackers. A ballerina nutcracker may seem out of place – until you notice she’s holding a tiny nutcracker herself!
A Black Santa rests in the corner next to the grandfather clock, with three more displayed on top. They’re part of a large collection of Black Christmas memorabilia, including Santas, angels, dolls and more. There’s even a black Elf on the Shelf dangling from the computer monitor in the office upstairs. In the hall, a tree in the window above the front door spreads Christmas cheer, its lights changing color and dancing to the beat. In the dining room, an enchanting Christmas village features brightly animated buildings and a six-car Lionel train traveling through the town square. The train speeds past a tall Christmas tree in the town center, a theater where couples dance to The Nutcracker theme, a merry-go-round, and even a blimp circling the sky before it disappears into the tunnel nestled under the mountainside, which is adorned with evergreens, a clocktower, water tower, reindeer school, windmill, and a ski slope. A large star, hanging from the dining room’s chandelier, shines over the village.
In the great room, a 12-foot traditional tree stands next to the mantel, where stockings are hung with care. Above the mantel, the television displays a seasonal image of a brightly lit Christmas tree surrounded by a forest of stark, dark tree trunks. The windows provide an expansive view of the large patio, the surrounding woods, and the Merriman Valley beyond. Overhead on the window shelf rests a collection of 32 holiday bears, collected annually since 1995. Atop the baby grand piano, Mr. and Mrs. Claus stand guard over Christmas cards, Lladró figurines, and family photos.
The powder room is a bright Christmas red all year long but houses a slim tree covered with Christmas rubber ducks to celebrate the season. In the blue main bedroom, a flocked tree is covered in blue, white and silver decorations. The throw pillows on the bed follow a blue-and-white winter color scheme – and one of them even lights up!
Upstairs, each bedroom has a tree, including one that features a host of Elf on the Shelf stuffed figures, along with other characters, including snowmen, reindeer, ice skaters, teddy bears, bunnies and ballerinas. A shelf displays a collection of Michelle Obama dolls.
On the catwalk overlooking the great room, a large pink Barbie mansion is the backdrop for an extensive collection of international Barbies, including Black and brown Barbies, Ken dolls, and their friends. Lights on Barbie’s beautiful pink tree cast a warm glow on the gold and pink ornaments and pink flowers. Pink stilettos serve as the tree topper, creating a distinctly feminine holiday scene. Throughout the lower level, Christmas also reigns. The grandson’s bedroom has an Avengers theme and a superhero tree with collectible figures displayed underneath. The family room is dedicated to our local pro football team, including a tree skirt that shouts Cleveland Browns! The tree is adorned with Browns ornaments, and the tree topper is a Browns helmet. A roaring fire fills the rustic fireplace, and Browns stockings hang on the mantel above. Christmas movie posters fill the walls: It’s a Wonderful Life, A Christmas Story, and Jingle Jangle, among others, line the walls outside the eight-person movie theater.
In the King’s room, display cases are filled with awards and memorabilia from his college years and work experience. The traditional tree is topped with, what else... a King’s crown. In the adjoining bar and dining area, the chair backs are adorned with Santa caps. Enjoy the view as you leave – the homeowners certainly do!
